Trump’s Signature to Appear on New U.S. Banknotes; Gold Coin to Feature His Likeness

For the first time, a sitting president’s signature will be featured on U.S. banknotes, marking a departure from tradition where only the signatures of the Treasury Secretary and the Treasurer appear, as reported by P.

The news first emerged in Vanity Fair.

This initiative is the latest in a series of actions where Trump has associated his name and image with American cultural landmarks, following the renaming of the U.S. Institute of Peace, the Kennedy Center’s performing arts building, and a new class of warships, among other tributes.

Commemorative Gold Coin Featuring Trump’s Image

Concurrently, efforts are underway to feature Trump’s image on a commemorative coin.

Earlier this month, a federal arts commission approved the final design for a 24-karat gold commemorative coin bearing Trump’s likeness, intended to celebrate Independence Day on July 4th. Last year, the U.S. Mint revealed designs for coins marking the 250th anniversary of American independence, depicting founding documents and the Revolutionary War, but not President Donald Trump, despite some allies’ efforts to include his image on a coin.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated in a release that “there is no more powerful way to acknowledge the historic achievements of our great country” than with U.S. dollar bills bearing Trump’s signature.

U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach commented that printing Trump’s signature on U.S. currency “is not only appropriate but well-deserved.”

The U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing is tasked with producing all banknotes, while the U.S. Mint is responsible for all coins.
