Oscar Awards to Relocate to Downtown Los Angeles by 2029

The Academy’s Oscar Awards will be leaving Hollywood and relocating to downtown Los Angeles starting in 2029. This move coincides with the event’s first-ever live broadcast on YouTube, as announced by the Academy on Thursday.

The ceremony, traditionally held at the Dolby Theatre located on Hollywood Boulevard, will now take place at the Peacock Theatre. This concert hall is part of LA Live, a bustling district at the heart of downtown Los Angeles, surrounded by skyscrapers and home to major venues like the Crypto.com Arena, where the Los Angeles Lakers play.

Decade-Long Partnership for the Oscars

This relocation is part of a ten-year partnership with AEG, the company that manages this prominent cultural and sports hub. “For the 101st Academy Awards and beyond, the Academy is thrilled to work closely with AEG to make LA LIVE the ideal setting for our global celebration of cinema, both for attendees and film fans worldwide,” stated Academy President Bill Kramer and CEO Lynette Howell Taylor in a joint press release.
