Starting in 2029, the prestigious Oscar Awards will transition from their traditional Hollywood setting to the vibrant heart of downtown Los Angeles. The Academy announced on Thursday that the event will be broadcast live on YouTube for the first time ever.
Historically held at the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, the Oscars ceremony will now take place at the Peacock Theatre. This concert venue is nestled in a bustling plaza within LA Live, a prominent area surrounded by downtown skyscrapers and home to venues like the Crypto.com Arena, where the Los Angeles Lakers play.
Decade-Long Partnership for the Oscars
This relocation is part of a ten-year agreement with AEG, the organization responsible for managing this cultural and sports hub. “For the 101st Academy Awards and beyond, the Academy is thrilled to partner closely with AEG, making LA Live the ideal backdrop for our global celebration of cinema. This setting will cater to both our in-person audience and film fans worldwide,” stated Academy President Bill Kramer and Chair Lynette Howell Taylor in a joint announcement.
