The Academy Awards will be moving from Hollywood to downtown Los Angeles starting in 2029, marking the first time the event will be broadcast live on YouTube, as announced by the Academy on Thursday.
The ceremony, traditionally held at the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, is set to take place at the Peacock Theatre, a concert hall situated within the expansive LA Live complex. This location, in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, also houses the Los Angeles Lakers’ home stadium, Crypto.com Arena.
Decade-Long Partnership for the Oscars
This relocation is part of a ten-year agreement with AEG, the company managing this cultural and sports venue. “For the 101st edition of the Academy Awards and beyond, the Academy is thrilled to collaborate closely with AEG to make LA LIVE the ideal setting for our global celebration of cinema, both for the in-person audience and film fans worldwide,” stated Academy President Bill Kramer and Chair Lynette Howell Taylor in a joint announcement.
