Oscar Ceremonies to Relocate to Downtown Los Angeles in 2029

The Academy Awards, commonly known as the Oscars, are set to move from their traditional Hollywood location to downtown Los Angeles starting in 2029. For the first time, the event will be broadcast live on YouTube, the Academy announced on Thursday.

Historically held at the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, the ceremony will now take place at the Peacock Theatre. This concert venue is located in the expansive LA Live complex, which is situated amidst the skyscrapers of downtown Los Angeles and includes the home stadium of the Los Angeles Lakers, the Crypto.com Arena.

Decade-Long Partnership for the Oscars

This relocation is part of a ten-year partnership with AEG, the company that manages this cultural and sports hub. “For the 101st edition of the Academy Awards and beyond, the Academy is thrilled to collaborate closely with AEG to make LA LIVE the ideal setting for our global celebration of cinema, both for the in-person audience and movie fans worldwide,” stated Academy President Bill Kramer and President Lynette Howell Taylor in a joint release.
