The Academy Awards will depart from Hollywood and transition to downtown Los Angeles starting in 2029. This marks the first year the ceremony will be streamed live on YouTube, as announced by the Academy on Thursday.
Traditionally held at the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, the event will move to the Peacock Theatre. This concert hall is located in a large plaza among the skyscrapers of downtown Los Angeles, known as LA Live, which also houses the Crypto.com Arena, home to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Decade-Long Partnership for the Oscars
This relocation is set for a decade as part of a partnership with AEG, the company managing this cultural and sports venue. “For the 101st Academy Awards and beyond, the Academy is thrilled to work closely with AEG to establish LA LIVE as the ideal setting for our global celebration of cinema, catering to both the in-person audience and film fans around the world,” stated Bill Kramer, the Academy’s President, and Lynette Howell Taylor, the Chairperson, in a joint release.
